Mount Bromo is an active volcano and part of the Tengger massif, in East Java, Indonesia. It stands at 2,329 meters (7,641 feet) and is one of the most visited tourist attractions in East Java.

Mount Bromo sits in the middle of a vast plain called the "Sea of Sand" (Segara Wedi), which is a protected nature reserve since 1919.

The volcano is revered by the local Tenggerese people, who believe it to be the home of the god Brahma (hence the name Bromo, derived from Brahma).

The most famous event associated with Mount Bromo is the annual Yadnya Kasada festival, where the Tenggerese people throw offerings into the volcano's crater.
